Poyet to join West Ham

Diego Poyet is to join West Ham on a four year contract, having turned down Newcastle and Stoke: Poyet

At a club like West Ham he will have more of a chance of getting off the bench than at, say, Chelsea. The more appearances he makes, the more cash we get.

His decision to go to the Premier League has attracted criticism from some Charlton fans, but for footballers it is a career. What fan would turn down the chance of a better paid job? I am grateful for the contribution he made to our fight against relegation.

Seems Poyet signed a 5 year deal with West Ham, and clubs trying to negotiate compensation rather than face tribunal. Good luck to Poyet, mindless idiots who come onto blogs cussing like above has no place among genuine supporters.

Totally dont agree with how the first comment has put the issues, but lets be honest here, no loyalty at from Poyet!

Charlton have helped make him into the player he is today and at the first chance he has jumped shipped. He could have easily signed for us knowing in that he would have been sold to a larger club in a year or at the most two, sorry not a smaller one like West Ham, and Charlton would have got a large sum for him. Now all we will get is some paultry compensation for all the hard work that Charlton have done. West Ham have a great habit of doing this especially to us!

I for one hope that they get relegated and we take their place, at least that would be some justice!

A good tribunal settlement might at least indicate that we are not operating an academy for other clubs' benefit. Sad he is off but if he's good enough to flourish in the EPL we should not stand in his way.

West Ham just lost a promising teenager to Arsenal and we've lost one to West Ham. Its just the food chain and nothing that anyone can do about it. It doesn't bother me as long as the supplying club gets fair compensation.

I'd love to know , why we didn't get him under contract sooner and what our 'last offer was'
But , I don't expect Gold et al to be making a great compensation offer.
I'm dissapointed in both the club and Poyet but we need a Class 1 academy to ensure the best compensation.

At least he didn't go to Palarse.

poyet move has frustrated me big time i dont agree with first comment made i think most supporters hate west ham though so i can understand why fans have said what they have today about him.we need to move on and produce the next star for the future in gomez.fox, mumms, cousins, pope, and few others its sad some players show no loyalty to the club that has helped develop their carears,

Charlton are a mess, they show no loyalty to players, staff or managers, even the ones who do well, and look shaped up to get relegated. I think if Poyet had done this when the club was stable you could be critical, but who would he be being loyal to if he stuck around? almost all the players and staff he has grown up with will have gone, and those who remain will have low morale. The club ownership is distant and heartless. Westham may also be chaotic if they dont start well, but moving just looks sensible.

Let's get this right. Poyet is probably the best advised and connected youth prospect in Europe.
If losing him has blame attached , look firstly to Prothero/Slater/Jimenez....they didn't sign him earlier and then Katrien's /Roland Naivete to clearly not address this ASAP on arrival.
Poyet honoured his contract and given his success cleasrly felt his future lay elsewhere. So criticing him is wrong, It wasn't a Parker situation !

£20m has just left the building !

charlton arnet in a mess all the players who left let ther contracts run down so we got rid of the deadwood.Rd knows he has a lot of money to spend on the club he will make 6 or 7 signings i predict this season but he is going give youth a try which is good i really like rd in charge if im honest can u rem last time charlton splashed out £3.4m on a striker?and Buyens is quality reminds me so much of kinsella as a player when with us.The 2 who have come in on trial this week also quality in bikey and the barnsley midfielder and if we get all peeters targets then i think charlton will have a solid season this year im very excited with whats happeneing at the club at the moment no more crap signings like wood and gower we are getting bigger and better players like ones at leige who we are after things look on the up ive done a £20 bet on us for promoation at 40-1 optimistic

How is it naive when you offer a young player on arrival a contract and he and his advisers say, we won't talk till the season is over? then you improve the offer so that he would be one of, if not the best paid player in the team, despite his youth and inexperience? MS & TJ left all the cards in Poyets hands and he played them the way he wanted to. Plenty to fault RD and Km but not the Poyet situation, unless you are one of those that just wants to slate Rd at every turn.
