The Charlton Athletic Supporters' Trust is seeking to take advantage of relatively new legislation (the 2011 Localism Act) to have The Valley designated as an Asset of Community Value. If the application is approved by Greenwich Council, the ground could not be sold separately from the club without a six month consultation period: Community Value
Oxford United have already been successful in such a bid and fans at Birmingham City are trying to seek protection for St.Andrews. The scheme is being promoted by Supporters Direct, the governing body for supporters' trusts: Oxford United.
