Curbs talks to Villa

Alan Curbishley has been in contact with Aston Villa after Roberto Martinez decided to stay at Wigan. Although Mark Hughes is now the favourite, there is a view at the club that he might just use it as a stepping stone to greater things.

Curbishley, who did play for Villa bfeore moving to The Valley, was interviewed for the role following the departure of Martin O'Neill last August.

At one time it was thought that Curbs (with his wife as a possible influence) would not take a job outside the M25. However, if he wants to get back into management at the top level he may need to be less restrictive.

The view being argued in the media is that Villa fans would not welcome his appointment: Curbs This view seems also to be held by Villa fans here in Leamington who have said they would not dance in the Parade if he was appointed.

On the other hand, they would not welcome Alex McLeish who has just got the Blews relegated but is apparently highly regarded by owner Randy Lerner. Fortunately for Villa fans, relegation specialst Iain Dowie is not yet in the frame but you never know.

How can you say that with certainty?

He cant! It would seem a sensible thing for Villa to do.I am not a Curbs fan but cannot understand how they could think of taking Martinez,Coyle,Mclaren or Hughes before him. He has an average league finish at CAFC of 11th after we won promotion in 2000.His only flirtation with relegation came when he inherited pardews mess at the shammers, and of course he got them out of it at our expense. In this country the grubby scribblers of the press, aided by the parasite presenters on TV,latch onto certain managers, players and clubs, entirely for their own ends, the herd then follow suit, and in the case of managerial appointments club chairman take in this crap.Allardyce is a classic example. Through no fault of his own AC has become an outcast.

While I agree with what you say about the options (Everton may lose their manager), possibly Curbs stayed off the circuit for too long. He was very picky about where he would go. Incidentally, I did have a reasonably good source for the original story (not Curbs, I hasten to add).

I agree he has been too fussy, but i also think that even though his was a case of constructive dismissal from wet sham, maybe some chairman think he was a troublemaker, which is not a true reflection of what happened.

I think anyone who publicly sues the owners of a football club will find it hard to get back into the game as a club manager.
